On this page you will find illustrated reports of some of our activities during 1985. These are mainly in addition to our main meetings and shack nights. The most recent activities are at the top of the page.
Towards the end of 1985 we offered a Poole Award for any station that made sufficient contacts with stations in Poole.
By working members of Poole Radio Amateur Society, as it was then known, participants could make extra points.
Even more points could obtained by working the club station G4PRS. Several members took it in turns to operate G4PRS from their homes on bands as divers as 160m and 70cm. Although operation was permitted on any band, most activity was to be found on 2m.
The picture shows as example of one of the certificates, signed by Vernon Cotton G3BCI, the club president, and Colin Baverstock G4WCK, who coordinated the production and issuing of the certificates.
Over the first weekend of September 1985, we took part and entered the open section of the RSGB hf ssb field day at the Lilliput Sea Scouts HQ.
182 contacts were made on the 80, 40, 20 and 15m bands.

One evening we visited the BBC World Service transmitters at Rampisham Down.
It was fascinating to see such powerful transmitters in operation. The reflected power was several times the maximum permitted forward power for amateur transmitters!
Phil G3OBD won the Poole Cup.
